The coursework that formed the core curriculum conveyed the essentials of photograph conservation theory and practice and was completed during the first year of the fellowship. The curriculum was designed to maximize the faculty’s specialties and the resources available to the Andrew W. Mellon Fellows, and was delivered through lectures, seminars, or practica.
The classes included: History and Technology of Photographic Processes; Photographic Documentation and Technical Examination; Treatment of Photographic Materials; Preservation and Collection Management; Digital Imaging and Photographic Duplication; Photographic Chemistry and Materials Science of Deterioration; and others.
